Research Progress

Do you have type 1 diabetes and are interested in participating in important research? The Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney is seeking adults to take part in a study investigating how a new fibre supplement influences your T1D management and gut microbiome.

You may be eligible to participate if you:

  • Have type 1 diabetes
  • Are aged 18-45 years
  • Can attend five clinic visits (1-3 hours) at the University of Sydney over 12 weeks

This exciting new trial is supported by JDRF and led by researchers from Sydney, Monash and Queensland Universities. It will test a new, specialised fibre supplement previously shown to prevent 90% of cases of T1D in mice. This fibre supplement works by influencing the gut bacteria which, in turn, switch off the autoimmune attack on the pancreas.
