JDRF would like to congratulate all those MPs that were elected in the 2019 Federal Election. We would like to congratulate the Morrison Liberal National Coalition for their return to Government and wish them well into the future.
Given the partisan nature of Australian politics, with two major parties, there is an inherent challenge for any advocacy group or charity. This is, which side of politics are more likely to support you? At JDRF we have remained rigorously bi-partisan in our approach to politics. This means that we ensure to maintain our relationships both sides of the political aisle. We work extremely hard to ensure regardless of party allegiance or faction, all of Australia’s federal politicians understand the realities of living with T1D and why research holds the key.
It is down to this hard work that we went into the election knowing both major parties knew about the impact of the CRN and why its continuation was key to the 120,000 Australians living with T1D. So much so in fact, that in January the Morrison government confirmed over $50m for T1D research, including $25m for the CRN.
And while it is outstanding that the work of the CRN can continue, our work with government does not stop there. Over the coming months, we’ll be working with the community, researchers and advocates to ensure we keep raising awareness with decision makers in Canberra of the issues facing people living with T1D.
And finally, some of our youngest advocates, and aspiring artists, have written their own thanks, which you can check out below.
